Primary Role Set (n.) - In Role Theory, the 5 to 8 people you spend the most time with are referred to as your primary role set. These 5-8 people fulfill set roles in your life and you fulfill a set role in theirs. These roles can be consciously or unconsciously chosen. Your primary role set are the people who set expectations for your behavior. They then hold influence over who you become by rewarding what they like to see in you and sanctioning the things they don't. You will naturally do more of what earns you praise and do less of (or sometimes actively hide) what gains you judgment or punishment. Since you often become the combination of the 5-8 people you spend the most time with, it's important to choose the people you keep closest to you wisely. Tuesdays – Word of the Week
