Seeing the World Through New Eyes

3/30/2016

Title:  The Art of Living Every Minute of Your Life
Featured:  Dr. Rachel Naomi Remen
Publication Date: 2008
Summary: Dr. Remen talks about her work and tells the stories of what it means to really live your life. She also shares the daily review technique that she teaches to help her students see life as new again. There is much warmth, humor, compassion, and inspiration to be found here.
See the World Through New Eyes (Dr. Remen's Journal Activity)
Total Time: 10 minutes

This activity has you think through and write down the answer to three questions as part of your daily review. How to start a daily review practice and its benefits are covered in Week 2.

As you go to bed, start reviewing your day in reverse (from the time you went to bed backward toward the time you woke up in the morning) until you reach any answer to the question:

What surprised me today?

Write down your answer or hold it firmly in your mind. Once the first question is answered, start in the present and review your day in reverse until you find any answer to the next question:

What touched my heart today?

And then do the review one more time for the last question:

What inspired me today?

Write down each answer, hold it firmly in your mind, or review it clearly.

You are training your mind to see the world through a more positive lens. What we focus on is what we get more of. Techniques like Dr. Remen's are ways to help water the seeds of wonder, positivity, and newness.

As you begin to focus more on these things, the easier they will be to see. The more your thoughts move in this direction, your mind will have less time to spend on more negative forms of thinking.

Wednesdays – Just for Inspiration

Sometimes we just need inspiration, to see the world through another’s lens, to feel the emotion connected to our work, or to find motivation to keep us moving forward. Wednesdays are about positivity, education, and encouragement.
